Why is that so? The principle of an air conditioning system is based on the fact that a suitable refrigerant is constantly pumped in a circuit between the indoor and outdoor units. The refrigerant changes its physical state and is either liquefied or vaporized. This allows that the refrigerant transports “heat”. In cooling mode, the refrigerant transports “heat” from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit. The result: it gets cool inside. In heating mode, the refrigerant transports “heat” from the outdoor unit to the indoor unit. The result: it gets warm inside. But why does it still get warm inside, even though the outside temperature is well below freezing, for example? This is the result of the temperature difference to the refrigerant used and its properties. The video shows a defrosting process of a heat pump in heating mode. This all happens in automatic mode. A sustainable technology, because the electrical power supplied to the device results in triple the thermal energy in modern air conditioning devices. This is the so-called SCOP factor.
